ARIES (TA-LE) – NISAN – YEHUDA – GARNET

Aries is the first of the fire signs and the first sign in both the lunar and solar (lunisolar) astronomical cycles.

HOW TO READ & UNDERSTAND YOUR CHART

The wisdom gained by reflecting on your astronomical chart will help you realise your inner potential, gain profound self-awareness, and receive invaluable guidance for effective communication.

Each of us is blessed with unique gifts and challenged by specific obstacles that are intricately tied to the astronomical sign under which we were born. These signs, rooted in the sacred teachings of Kabbalistic astronomy (mazalot), serve as spiritual compasses, illuminating the obstacles we must transcend and unveiling our sacred life purpose. The ultimate aim is to empower yourself to rise above the celestial influences and seize control over the direction of your life.

The Kabbalah teaches us that the course of history transpires as a result of the cyclical energy processes of the year rather than because of physical events. Therefore, by looking at the time at which each moment in history occurs, we can better understand why it happened.

NiSAN (ARiES) – THE FiRST LUNAR & SOLAR SiGN

Ta-Le (Aries) is the first of the fire signs and the first sign in both the Lunar and Solar astronomic cycles. Even though the Hebrew calendar recognizes Rosh HaShana as the New Year, Nissan is the first month of the calendar year.

Isaac was born on the 15th of Nisan. When Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, a ram caught in a thicket by its horns appears, and Abraham sacrifices the ram instead of his son (Genesis (Breshit) 22:13).

On the evening of the 14th day of Nisan, the male lamb (Ta-le) was to be slaughtered and eaten. The blood of the lamb was to be applied to the doorposts and lintels of the Israelites’ houses as a sign for G-d to “pass over” those houses during the plague of the firstborn. (Exodus (Shemot), chapter 12).

That night, G-d struck down the firstborn in Egypt, leading Pharaoh to finally release the Israelites.

Those born during Nisan (Aries) are energetic, enthusiastic, and natural leaders. They are courageous, ambitious, and proactive, often taking initiative. Their optimism and pioneering spirit drive them to pursue new challenges. They can be impulsive and headstrong, but their determination ensures they achieve their goals.

They are often considered the children of the universe with a self centered attitude and have the potential to be selfish.

The Cosmic Energy of the Month

The same energy that was revealed when the children of Israel left Egypt is revealed every fourteenth day of Nisan (Aries), when the moon is in full force. Nisan (Aries) is ruled by Mars, the planet of war, which allows us to wage war on the conflicts in our own lives.

Applying this understanding to both personal and global conflicts underscores the notion that our individual journeys are interconnected with larger patterns of human experience. By recognizing and engaging with these symbolic energies, we may find inspiration and guidance for navigating the challenges we face, both internally and externally.

According to the Kabbalah, this month provides us with the spiritual strength to break free from all limitations and bondage of any kind. Nisan (Aries) allows us to leave behind the personal blockages that prevent us from achieving true freedom in all areas of life.

Focusing your Energy

Focusing positive thought and consciousness on Rosh Chodesh and throughout the month can help to convert this energy of selfishness to selflessness and encourage a person to be more sharing and thoughtful.

Point of Reflection

When we overcome the desire to receive for the self alone and convert it into the desire to receive in order to share, we awaken the force of miracles available to us in Nissan and elevate to our highest selves.

CONNECTiNG THE DOTS

The Jewish calendar’s association of each month with a zodiac sign and a tribe of Israel is deeply rooted in Jewish mysticism, tradition, and symbolism. This system reflects the interconnectedness of time, spirituality, and the cultural heritage of the Jewish people.

Kabbalah

According to the Kabbalah, each month is linked to one of the twelve zodiac signs, which have divine influence. Each zodiac sign symbolizes specific qualities and energies that are particularly potent during its corresponding month.

Tribes of Israel

Each of the twelve months is also associated with one of the twelve tribes of Israel, corresponding to the twelve sons of Jacob. These tribes represent different aspects of the Jewish collective soul and the divine attributes (Sefirot). Each tribe has unique characteristics and a particular spiritual mission, which aligns with the energy of the corresponding month.

This system blends astronomy, theology, and Jewish tradition to offer spiritual guidance and cultural continuity. It provides meaning and direction, reflecting the holistic nature of Jewish spirituality and its cosmic perspective.

SEFER YETZiRAH

The Sefer Yetzirah, or “Book of Creation” is one of the earliest works of Jewish mysticism, particularly within the Kabbalistic tradition.

Ten Sefirot

The Sefer Yetzirah introduces the concept of the Ten Sefirot, which are fundamental to Kabbalistic cosmology. These Sefirot are seen as ten attributes or emanations through which G-d interacts with the world. They are often described as both numbers and divine attributes.

Twenty-Two Hebrew Letters

The Sefer Yetzirah explains the importance of the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which it divides into three categories: three “mother” letters (Aleph, Mem, Shin), seven “double” letters (Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Kaf, Peh, Resh, Tav), and twelve “simple” letters. These letters are seen as the building blocks of creation, used by God to form the universe.

According to the “Sepher Yetzirah“, the Hebrew letters are spiritual frequencies that G-d used to created the universe. A different Hebrew letter controls or influences the constellation and planet of the month. By connecting to these letters through meditation we can draw down specific energy to empower and enlighten us.

LETTERS OF THE MONTH – Dalet and Hei

Nisan is the month of Passover, symbolizing freedom and redemption. The letter Hey represents divine revelation and the breath of life, reflecting the new beginnings and the liberation of the Israelites from Egypt. The letters for the month of Nissan are Dalet and Hei.

Dalet

Dalet created the Planet Mars. Accordingly, this is a month that also contains confrontations and battles. We learn that a war is always being fought within each of us and we can harvest the energy on Rosh Chodesh and throughout the month to resolve our inner conflict. The holiday of Passover which starts on the 15th of Nissan is a historical remembrance of breaking out of the literal bonds of slavery in Egypt.

On a deeper level it is about escaping the bondage of our own ego, breaking free and winning the war against our personal addictions and enslavement on both a personal and professional level.  Addictions are not just alcoholism or gambling, but can be self-righteousness, holding grudges, resentment, jealousy, etc.

Hei

The letter Hei created the constellation of Aries which symbolizes the Ram and is associated with the head.  Those born under the sign of Aries are typically strong-willed and tend to rush into things head first with no tolerance for opposition. The childlike characteristics of Aries are the result of being the first astronomic sign of the year, without having the benefit of seeing all of the other signs that follow.

Like all astronomical signs, the key is not to be subject to its general characteristics, but rather to understand the sign and to make corrections in our lives to rise above any predisposed traits.

Days of Connection in Nissan

The month of Nissan is the first month of the year and is well known for the holiday of Passover or Pesach. Passover is the first of three pilgrimage festivals where the children of Israel presented themselves at the Temple to offer sacrifices.

In the time of the Temple the sacrifices were connected the “first-fruits of the barley” and the growing season. The festival is now connected to the children of Israel’s exodus from Egypt and the deliverance from slavery to freedom by the hand of G-d. The entire month of Nissan is considered to be holy and joyous.  Passover extends from the 15th day of Nissan through the 22 of Nissan (in Israel it ends on the 21st).

Shabbat HaGadol

In Nisan we also have Shabbat HaGadol or the Great Shabbat. This Shabbat occurs immediately preceding Passover and we read a special Haftorah portion from the Book of Malachi. It is special for several reasons – the main reason being that it contains the secret of redemption. The Torah describes how G-d required each household to take a lamb and tie it to their bedposts on the 10th of Nissan – in advance of making the Passover offering. This was the first mitzvah completed by the Jewish nation and demonstrated certainty in G-d’s word – creating a significant revelation of Light.

Lambs were considered Egyptian idols at the time so the act of trusting in G-d and fulfilling a commandment, which went against the accepted practices of the day, shows amazing certainty. This energy of redemption, going from bondage to freedom, is available on Shabbat HaGadol and carried throughout the entire week of Passover.

WHAT iS A RULiNG PLANET

In Jewish astronomy and Kabbalah, the ruling planets are significant influencers of the spiritual and physical characteristics of time periods and individuals.

These planets are not just astronomical bodies but also spiritual entities that convey divine energy. Their influence can shape the spiritual atmosphere of a month and the innate characteristics of individuals. The interplay between these planetary influences and other Kabbalistic concepts, such as the Sefirot, contributes to a holistic understanding of personality and destiny within the framework of Jewish mysticism.

RULiNG PLANET – Ma’adim (Mars)

Nisan (Aries) is ruled by Mars, the planet of war, which allows us to wage war on the conflicts in our own lives. It supports us in infusing the year with the right consciousness in any war zone, whether it is between nations, people, or in the conflict that rages within us on a daily basis – the fight between the desire to receive for the self alone and the desire to share.

THE 12 GEMSTONES OF THE EPHOD (BREASTPLATE)

In the Torah (Exodus 28:15-21), there is a description of the Breastplate (Choshen) worn by the High Priest (Kohen Gadol), which contained twelve gemstones, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel. These stones are mentioned as part of the priestly garments and represent the different aspects of the tribes and their virtues.

BiRTH STONE – Garnet – Green

Yehuda’s stone was a Garnet –  nofech, a glittering green stone, the color of leeks. It chases away enemies, makes them turn their backs, and thus causes victory in war. It strengthens self-confidence.

The garnet is known as the stone of commitment because it strengthens determination and devotion to a cause or goal, to other people and to self-obligation. It relieves shoulder and back pains. In case of backache, it is recommended to paste a number of small stones on the painful area. For shoulder pain, wear it in a necklace.
