CAPRICORN (GEDI) – TEVET – DAN – OPAL

Capricorn occurs in the month of Tevet and is ruled by Saturn. Saturn represents law enforcement in the cosmos, giving us each exactly what we deserve.

HOW TO READ & UNDERSTAND YOUR CHART

The wisdom gained by reflecting on your astronomical chart will help you realise your inner potential, gain profound self-awareness, and receive invaluable guidance for effective communication.

Each of us is blessed with unique gifts and challenged by specific obstacles that are intricately tied to the astronomical sign under which we were born. These signs, rooted in the sacred teachings of Kabbalistic astronomy (mazalot), serve as spiritual compasses, illuminating the obstacles we must transcend and unveiling our sacred life purpose. The ultimate aim is to empower yourself to rise above the celestial influences and seize control over the direction of your life.

The Kabbalah teaches us that the course of history transpires as a result of the cyclical energy processes of the year rather than because of physical events. Therefore, by looking at the time at which each moment in history occurs, we can better understand why it happened.

TEVET (CAPRiCORN) – THE MONTH OF LAW & ORDER

The month of Tevet and the sign of Gedi (Capricorn) are both ruled by Saturn. Saturn provides the law enforcement in the cosmos, giving us each exactly what we deserve. This is the reason that Saturn has gotten such a bad rap amongst astrologers.

The Book of Formation, written by Abraham the Patriarch more than 3.800 years ago, reveals that Saturn is responsible for distractions, diseases, death, imprisonment, poverty, disgrace, shame and the many other obstacles that plague our lives.

Those born during Tevet (Capricorn), are marked by their deep introspection and practicality. Influenced by the winter season, they embody resilience and a quiet strength. Tevet-born individuals are known for their ability to navigate challenges with a steady approach, grounded in wisdom and determination. They often excel in analytical thinking and strategic planning, contributing to their community through their thoughtful and methodical problem-solving skills.

Focusing your Energy

Capricorn is an earth sign, with a strong connection to the material world. People born in this month have a strong need for financial security. They believe only in what their five senses convey and have trouble seeing beyond the apparent. Capricorn represents the Right Column of the earth signs, which signifies that its internal energy is water. This translates into the Capricorn’s helpful and caring character.

Capricorns are family-oriented and have strong ties to the home. They are great caretakers who can often lack faith in the Creator because they are easily controlled by physical forces. They fear what tomorrow might bring and a potential lack of funds for survival. These fears keep many Capricorns from becoming more spiritual.

Point of Reflection

Those born in Capricorn are traditionally reliable, responsible, caring, thrifty, and punctual. After all, time is money! They make excellent business people, accountants, engineers, attorneys, and thrive in any disciplinary position, from crossing guard to drill sergeant.

CONNECTING THE DOTS

The Jewish calendar’s association of each month with a zodiac sign and a tribe of Israel is deeply rooted in Jewish mysticism, tradition, and symbolism. This system reflects the interconnectedness of time, spirituality, and the cultural heritage of the Jewish people.

Kabbalah

According to the Kabbalah, each month is linked to one of the twelve zodiac signs, which have divine influence. Each zodiac sign symbolizes specific qualities and energies that are particularly potent during its corresponding month.

Tribes of Israel

Each of the twelve months is also associated with one of the twelve tribes of Israel, corresponding to the twelve sons of Jacob. These tribes represent different aspects of the Jewish collective soul and the divine attributes (Sefirot). Each tribe has unique characteristics and a particular spiritual mission, which aligns with the energy of the corresponding month.

This system blends astronomy, theology, and Jewish tradition to offer spiritual guidance and cultural continuity. It provides meaning and direction, reflecting the holistic nature of Jewish spirituality and its cosmic perspective.

TEVET – CAPRiCORN (KESHET)

A person born during Tevet is ruled by the bones. They understand from avery young age the framework of society and its levels. They do not want to be at the bottom. Most serious students focus on career and acheivement. They are usually very steady movers, placing one foot carefully in front of the other.

Because this sign rules the skeleton, nutritious beef, chicken and turkey or lamb bone broth should be eaten regularly.

SEFER YETZiRAH

The Sefer Yetzirah, or “Book of Creation” is one of the earliest works of Jewish mysticism, particularly within the Kabbalistic tradition.

Ten Sefirot

The Sefer Yetzirah introduces the concept of the Ten Sefirot, which are fundamental to Kabbalistic cosmology. These Sefirot are seen as ten attributes or emanations through which G-d interacts with the world. They are often described as both numbers and divine attributes.

Twenty-Two Hebrew Letters

The Sefer Yetzirah explains the importance of the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which it divides into three categories: three “mother” letters (Aleph, Mem, Shin), seven “double” letters (Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Kaf, Peh, Resh, Tav), and twelve “simple” letters. These letters are seen as the building blocks of creation, used by God to form the universe.

According to the “Sepher Yetzirah“, the Hebrew letters are spiritual frequencies that G-d used to created the universe. A different Hebrew letter controls or influences the constellation and planet of the month. By connecting to these letters through meditation we can draw down specific energy to empower and enlighten us.

LETTERS OF THE MONTH – Ayin and Bet

Tevet includes the fast of the 10th of Tevet, marking the siege of Jerusalem. The letter Ayin represents the eye, indicating insight and vision, and the ability to see beyond the immediate challenges. The letters for the month of Tevet are Ayin and Bet.

Ayin

Ayin created the constellation of Capricorn and Bet created the planet of Saturn which both rule over the month of Tevet. Ayin Bet have the numerical value of 72 and connect us to the 72 Names of G-d.

We can use the 72 three-letter combinations to take greater control of the physical world and help to overcome the Capricorn’s connection to material and physical aspects of our lives. Also, Ayin means eye or to see, and we can use this letter in our meditations during the month to “see” the spiritual nature of reality and how G-d is in everything.

Bet

Bet, is the first letter in the Torah and is connected to the word “bracha” or blessing. We can use the Bet to share and send blessings to others, the key to a happy and fulfilled life.

According to The Book of Formation, Ayin and Bet are the Hebrew letters controlling this month. The letter Ayin created Capricorn and the letter Bet created Saturn. The combination of Ayin and Bet is the level of Chochmah.

Days of Connection in Tevet

Rosh Chodesh Tevet falls on the 6th and 7th days of Chanukah and the month continues with Zot Chanukah, the last day of the holiday. The sages explain that the 8th day of the holiday is the complete manifestation of all of the light revealed during Chanukah and we can accordingly connect to the energy of miracles.  The 10th of Tevet is another connection in Tevet and is a fast day, commemorating the attack of Jerusalem in 586 BC by the Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar.

Have a great month and powerful Rosh Chodesh Tevet! Use the power of the 72 Names and specifically the power of sight and blessings from the Ayin Bet to share with others, to see G-d’s hand in everything and to connect to your higher self.

WHAT iS A RULiNG PLANET

In Jewish astronomy and Kabbalah, the ruling planets are significant influencers of the spiritual and physical characteristics of time periods and individuals.

These planets are not just astronomical bodies but also spiritual entities that convey divine energy. Their influence can shape the spiritual atmosphere of a month and the innate characteristics of individuals. The interplay between these planetary influences and other Kabbalistic concepts, such as the Sefirot, contributes to a holistic understanding of personality and destiny within the framework of Jewish mysticism.

RULiNG PLANET – Shabtai (Saturn)

The letter Bet created the planet Saturn which controls the month. Saturn also controlled the month of Tevet, but with opposite energy.

One aspect of Saturn faces in towards the Sun and the rest of our solar system with a clear structure and set of rules – this is the energy of Tevet. The other side of Saturn faces outwards towards space and has the energy of infinite and open space and freedom, which is connected to Aquarians and Shevat.

Planets Attributes

Discipline, structure, responsibility, patience, and endurance. Saturn’s influence encourages self-control, determination, and a focus on long-term goals.

Birth Qualities of Shabtai

Saturn is the planet of judgment, order, responsibility, discipline and laws, while Uranus elevates us to new consciousness and new concepts beyond limitation.

THE 12 GEMSTONES OF THE EPHOD (BREASTPLATE)

In Jewish tradition, there are specific associations between gemstones and each of the twelve Hebrew months.

In the Torah (Exodus 28:15-21), there is a description of the Breastplate (Choshen) worn by the High Priest (Kohen Gadol), which contained twelve gemstones, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel. These stones are mentioned as part of the priestly garments and represent the different aspects of the tribes and their virtues.

BiRTH STONE – Opal – White/Multi Coloured

Dan’s stone was an Opal – leshem. Rabbeinu Bachaya doesn’t have much to say about this stone so I will bring general knowledge about it. It strengthens the awareness of feelings and intuition.

However, if you are not sure of yourself or your judgment, the opal might increase this feeling and cause stress. For this reason, the opal is not recommended for young people who are generally more sensitive. Since the opal causes expression of inner feelings, it may cause physical or mental unease for those who repress their feelings.

For those who are open and assertive, this stone will provide happiness, joy, perseverance and confidence. When a person is ill, the color of the opal may change.

THE MONTH OF TEVET

The month of Tevet, from the word “tov” meaning good, is connected to the astronomic sign of Capricorn. Tevet or Capricorn is the tenth month in the Hebrew calendar, whereby 10 is a Holy number, further supporting it as a good month. However, Tevet is also one of three months, along with Tammuz (Cancer) and Av (Leo), where the energy of judgement is more direct and is considered a negative month. Each astronomic sign is connected to one of the 12 Tribes and Capricorn is connected to the tribe of Dan. Dan is spelled Dalet Nun (din), which means judgement.  The sages also say that Moses was hidden during the three negative months. The Kabbalists suggest that the contradiction between Tevet being good and negative is resolved by it being a positive month, so long as proper restriction is employed.

Tevet is a month where the Shechinah (female aspect of G-d) is not present and does not provide a protective shield for the direct light that is revealed. As the 10th month of the year, Tevet is connected to the sephira of Malchut which gets all of its light directly from the higher nine sephira and has no light of its own. In order to filter the intense light, it is necessary to practice restriction during the month, otherwise the overwhelming energy could be transformed into anger and stress.

The sign of Capricorn is an earth sign and those born under the sign are typically attached to the physical realm. It is considered the most “material” sign and a Capricorn’s correction and ability to obtain their true power is by overcoming the desire for physical pleasures and connecting more to spirituality. If a Capricorn is able to learn the secrets of spirituality and transform their intense focus, attention and business acumen, they will be unstoppable forces of good.  The key is to see things as separated with both a spiritual and physical influence during the month.

All of us can use this understanding to try and see G-d’s hand behind everything during Tevet, supporting our desire to restrict and the process to control an abundance of unfiltered Light available during the month.

SiGNiFiCANT EVENTS OF THE MONTH

The most important days in Sagittarius are the days of Chanukah, which begins on the 24th of Kislev and ends on the 2nd of Tevet. We light Chanukah candles to connect to the miracle that happened in the time of the Hasmoneans (also known as the Maccabees), when one day’s worth of oil burned for eight days in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

This amazing example of “mind over matter” took place because of the two letters that control this month; Gimel whose essence is Gomel Dalim (rewarding the poor), and the letter Samech, which created the month of Kislev. These conditions, together with the metaphysical actions that the Hasmoneans did, brought about this miracle that happened 2,000 years ago. We are subject to the very same conditions every year on the 24th day of the month of Sagittarius. This energy is revealed again for eight days and offers us the opportunity to create tremendous miracles in our lives.

FAST OF TEVET

The 10th day of Tevet marks the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 588 BCE, which eventually led to the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE.

The Fast of Tevet is observed on the 10th day as a day of mourning and reflection, commemorating the hardships endured by the Jewish people during this period.

YOM HAKADDiSH HA-KLALI

Some communities observe the 8th of Tevet as a day to recite the Kaddish, a prayer of mourning, for those who have no one to say Kaddish for them.

This practice is based on the belief that it is a propitious time to remember and pray for the souls of departed individuals.

GREAT OPERTUNiTY

When Tevet starts we are all influenced by Capricorn and that is why it is a great opportunity for us to learn, to see our lives as a spiritual project. It is the perfect time to make a list of all the spiritual assets we’ve accumulated over the years.

This will give us a good indication to what we want from life, and to motivate us to keep striving to be like the Capricorn; to enjoy spirituality, wealth, joy and true certainty
